walk a mile and help rebuild lives

We are pleased to announce that around 6,585 people stepped up for South Australia’s homeless and participated in walk a mile in my boots in 2015. That is more than one person for the almost 6,000 people experiencing homeless in South Australia each year.

We are so proud and pleased to see so many people getting involved either by walking, fundraising or donation. So to you, we say, Thank you!

Funds raised from walk a mile in my boots keep our Day Centre open – often a homeless person’s first point of call to seek help

Hutt St Centre is a leading frontline agency, recognised for providing trusted essential and professional services to people facing homelessness and disadvantage in Adelaide. We want to end homelessness for every person who walks through our doors, with care and without judgement. We receive government funding for our professional services (housing support, case management and employment pathways) but rely on fundraising initiatives to provide essential services including our Meal Centre and Day Centre.

Our Day Centre is often the first door a person walks through to seek help; the first steps taken towards ending homelessness. Our Day Centre is an essential connection point between basic needs such as bathroom, laundry and locker facilities, and the first conversations in determining a person’s next steps – housing assistance, medical support, social support, education and employment assistance and links to an extensive array of visiting services.

Did you miss this year’s walk?

Do you want to take part next year?

The 2016 walk a mile in my boots Adelaide will be happening on Friday 5 August with registrations opening in mid 2016.

Dates for the regional events will be released in early 2016.

Thank you for walking a mile or donating - you are making a difference to the lives of people less fortunate.
